TCL MOVES MORE THAN 450 THOUSAND TEU IN LEIXÕES 2009-12-29 For the tenth consecutive year, as many as it takes as concessionaire of the Leixões Container Terminal, TCL set in 2009 a new maximum annual handling of containers in the port. Today, at 10:30 hours, TCL crane drivers have joined a "buzinao" to stress the handling of the 450,000th TEU in the terminal during this year. When we are still two days to the end of the year, TCL surpassed the volume handled in 2008 when 449,353 TEU were handled, and thus a new annual maximum will be set in the history of Leixões Container Terminal, that confirms TCL as the largest container terminal in the Country. The volume now achieved is more significant as it has been achieved in a particularly difficult year for the shipping industry, due to economic and financial crisis and global downturn in world trade. In fact, the start of 2009 was also very difficult for the TCL, but quickly began to recover, attracting more traffic, more ships and more cargo. An active commercial work and a recognized operating capacity helped strengthen the integration of Leixões Container Terminal in the logistics chains of Northwest Iberian. The outcome is clear: since 2000, when TCL took over the concession, Leixões Container Terminal grew from 251 thousand TEU to 450 thousand TEU moved annually. |
