And on the 12th year of the concession (which completes only next May), TCL reached the 12th consecutive record in the number of handled containers. In 2011, it handled 512,282 TEU. A 6.2% jump regarding the figures reached in 2010. Considering the number of handled containers, the progression reached really 7.3%, up to a total of 327,101 units. The figures reached exceed the scope set in the beginning of 2011 – which stroked difficult – which was to reach 500 thousand TEU handled. To close the year with a golden key, TCL started the best month of December ever. It handled 28,625 containers, 10% more than in the corresponding month of 2010, having grown 7% less in number of TEU up to 44,064. With these results, TCL confirms to be the biggest national container terminal, and as a lever of the results which, year after year, consolidate the Port of Leixões as the biggest export Portuguese port.
