2014-06-18

The movement of goods in major ports of the continent grew by 1% in the first quarter, to 25.3 million tonnes.
The port of Sines handled 10.5 million tonnes (3.9% less YoY), Leixões 5.8 million (1.7% less), Lisbon 3.9 million (2% more) and Setúbal 2.7 million (25% more).
Among the smaller ports, while Viana do Castelo rose 19.7% to 181 thousand tonnes, Figueira da Foz decreased 7.5% to 652 thousand.
The global figures were heavily punished for breaking in the handling of liquid bulk (which penalized Leixões and Sines).
Was worth the sharp increase (19%) in the handling of containers, which reached 774,000 TEU. In Leixões TCL recorded 213,475 TEU, 11% more than in the first quarter of 2013. Sines reached 374,015 TEU (48.3% more), Lisbon yielded 18% to 145,629 TEU. And Setúbal reached the 33,938 TEU (were 18,760 a year ago).
