PORT OF LEIXOES GROWS 9% UNTIL JULY

In the first seven months of the year, the Port of Leixoes moved 9.4 million tons, 9% more than the same period in 2010.

The push for Leixoes performance continues to came from containerized cargo and TCL, with annual growth of 12% in tonnage and 9% in the number of TEUs handled, respectively.

Between January and July, the Port of Leixoes moved 299,023 TEUs (against 275,257 in the same period last year), corresponding to 3.1 million tons of containerized cargo (2.8 million in the same period in 2010).

Among the key aggregates of cargo, only bulk liquids gave ground in the first seven months of the year with a fall of 4% for the four million tons.

By the end of July, the dry bulk advanced 39% year on year to nearly 1.7 million tons, while the break-bulk cargo rose 46% to approximately 529,000 tons.
