PORT AUTHORITY PREPARES TO CUT UP TO 12% OF THE PORT FEES ON CARGO
2011-08-18

Move cargo through the Port of Leixoes will be cheaper next year, between 8% and 12%. This is at least the proposal done by the Port Authority (APDL) to the national supervisory body (IPTM), a proposal should be accepted.

For 2012, the APDL proposes to reduce by 12% port dues levied on goods for export.

In the case of imports, the Leixoes Port Authority's proposal provides a 8% reduction in port charges to be levied from 1st January 2012 onwards.

The Port Authority justifies this proposed revision of their tariffs with the desire to encourage the growth of national exports, and with the commitment to strengthen the integration of the Port of Leixoes in the supply chains - export and import - of Northwest Peninsular.

Therefore 2012 will be the second consecutive year of reduction of port charges on cargo in Leixoes. This year the fees for export cargo were reduced by 4% compared to prices charged in 2010, while the rates for import cargoes remained unchanged.

The Port of Leixoes between January and June reached its best half year ever in cargo tonnage handled, with exports growing 24%.
