The last data gathered by the International Forum of Transport of OECD indicate a slowdown of the cargo traffic at a world level.
On the second quarter of the year, maritime external commerce in the UE-27, measured in tons, stagnated to a level 3% below the one verified before the crisis broke out. In the US a fall down to -4% was verified, regarding the period pre-crisis.
The last report of the International Forum of Transport of OECD also underlines the inversion of the export growth trend to Asia. On the second quarter, the volumes exported to that region by sea decreased, not only within the “27” but also in the US. The exports of the UE-27 to the P.R of China increased, but within the first semester, the result is flat.
As an outlook to the near future, the International Forum of Transport anticipates a continued macroeconomic slowdown, and in consequence a weak growth of the goods international traffic, much of which due to the slowdown of the P. R. of China, so far the world recovery engine.
