NATIONAL PORTS GREW 9% ON THE FIRST SEMESTER

The movement of goods in the national ports grew 8% on the first semester. Having reached 35 million tons.
Sines confirmed itself as the first national port, with an accumulated movement of 14.3 million tons and a corresponding growth of about 22%.
Leixões strengthened its position of second biggest Portuguese, with an advance of 3.3% regarding the first semester of 2011, to a total of 8.3 million tons.
On the remaining ports, Lisbon kept at last year’s level, with 6.2 million tons handled (0.8% more), while Setúbal gave up 2.9% to 3.4 millions.
Aveiro lost also cargo regarding the first semester of last year: 1.3% to 1.7 million tons. On the other hand, Figueira da Foz moved on 4.4% to 908 thousand tons and Viana do Castelo grew 42.5% till 260 thousand tons.
Together, the national ports handled 13.7 million liquid bulk, 12.4 million tons of general cargo and 8.8 million tons of solid bulk.
