It was known already, but now, it has become official: the Port of Leixões was the port which grew more in Portugal, in 2011, pulverizing the competitor’s figures, strengthening in that way its market share. Last year, the seven main ports of the Continent handled 66.8 million tons, establishing a new record. The former dated 2007, with 66.3 million tons. Regarding 2010, a growth of 2.9% was registered. A much better result was achieved by the Port of Leixões, which reached 16.3 million tons handled. A growth of 11.6% regarding 2010, and a new absolute record. With that, Leixões increased its market share to about 25%. TCL contributed decisively to the strong result in Leixões, and obtained also am absolute record of container handling.
