LEIXÕES INAUGURATED THE NEW MULTIPURPOSE TERMINAL

APDL inaugurated officially the new Multipurpose Terminal, located close to the South Mole. The Minister of Transports, Communication and Public Works attended the ceremony and marked the Day of the Port, celebrated on the 18th September. The new terminal has a quay front of about 200 metres, and a ro-ro ramp with 26 metres, both with -8.5 metres deep. The support levelled ground has an area of about five hectares. The infrastructure, which represents an investment of around 20 million Euros, aims at serving preferably the ro-ro traffics as well as the Sea Highways which are also expected to settle in Leixões. In the short term, the new terminal will be managed directly by APDL. The new infrastructure constitutes a main capacity reserve for cargo handling inside the Port of Leixões. As the minister António Mendonça referred, the Port of Leixões has under way investments of almost 250 million Euros, between the new cruises terminal and the logistics port platform.
