The Port of Leixões handled, in the first quarter, 4.23 million tonnes, 1.4% more than the registered in the same period of 2013. Growth was led by containerized cargo, which advanced 9.9%. The movement of containers rose 13.1% in TEU and 14.1 % in units, according to data released by the Port Authority. The high in containerized cargo offset the annual loss of the liquid bulk cargo (-4.8 %) and of the general break bulk cargo (-10.5 %). With less impact on the final figures for the first quarter, agri-food bulk cargo increased 21.6% and ro-ro cargo 792 %. Overall, exports amounted to 1.3 million tonnes, about the same as a year ago. The highlights were the expeditions of paper and cardboard (37 %) and beverages (+18 %). Angola was the most dynamic destination, with an annual growth of 40 %. |
