LEIXÕES GROWS 3% IN 2010

The rise of the containerized cargo, a record, was decisive for the growth of 35 registered by the Port of Leixões in 2010. Last year, the tonnage of the containerized cargo handled in Leixões raised 10% up to 4.99 million tons, exceeding the previous record, dated 2008. At the same time, container handling at the port reached 483,334 TEU, 6% more than the corresponding in 2010, and also an absolute record. With this leverage, in 2010 the Port of Leixões handled 14.57 million tons, 3% more than the 14.14 million tons accounted in 2009. On the other hand, liquid bulk registered the worse result of the last years, with 6.7 million tons handled (a corresponding loss of 5%). Solid bull grew 7%, up to 2.2 million tons. Break bulk “shot” 72%, having reached 596 thousand tons. Last year, the Port of Leixões was called by 2.539 ships, ten less than in 2009. |
