2013-08-14

Leixões handled 8.5 million tonnes, between January and June, being the best first half in the northern port’s history.

When comparing with the same period in 2012 (when the record was fixed), the activity grew 2%, driven by containerized cargo.

According to the data released by the Port’s Authority, containerized cargo grew by 3%, with the handling of containers moving forward by 2%, in units, and by 5%, in TEU.

Exports continued to be the Port´s activity main engine, with an annual increase of 6% in tonnes. Angola, Algeria and Morocco were the highlight markets.

Besides containerized cargo, the break bulk, the solid bulk and the ro-ro cargo also stood out.
