FLEET OF CONTAINER-CARRIER INCREASES 10% IN 2010

The AXS Alphaliner predicts the world fleet of container-carriers should increase 9.9% this year. The French consultant kept account that in the end of 2009, the world fleet of cellular container-carriers amounted to 4,718 ships, with a global transport capacity of around 13 million TEU. By the end of 2010, the fleet should have increased up to 4,905 ships, with an aggregated transport capacity of 14,3 million TEU. Along the current year, still in line with AXS Alphaliner, 372 ships should invrease the fleet with a capacity of more than 1.8 million TEU. The estimate done takes into account the predictable dismantling of ships with an aggregated capacity of 250 thousand TEU and the postponing of deliveries of about 60 ships (300 thousand TEU) initially scheduled for the current year as well as for the forthcoming year. |
