CONTAINERS LEAD CARGO AT LEIXÕES
2014-03-26

The containerised cargo leads, undisputed, the movements of goods within the Port of Leixões, in the first two months of the year balance.
According to the official data from APDL, in late February containerised cargo surpassed the million tonnes handled, representing an increase of 7% over the same period of 2013.
The result is all the more significant as the comparison is made with record values. Besides, the difficult weather conditions in February hampered, and much, operations. Yet, TCL continued to grow.
Overall, in the first two months of the year the Port of Leixões handled 2.57 million tonnes, representing a year on year drop of 9%. The main explanation lies in the loss of 20% in the liquid bulk handling, largely as a result of adverse weather.
Fractional general cargo declined 2% to 162 thousand tonnes. The bulk solids yielded 21% to 348 thousand tonnes. The ro-ro cargo soared 800% to 33 thousand tonnes.
