CONTAINERS "HOLD" NUMBERS OF LEIXÕES UP TO APRIL
2014-05-23

In the first four months of the year, the Port of Leixões handled 5.8 million tonnes of cargo, which reflects an annual loss of 2%.
The containerized cargo grew by 8% to 2.1 million tonnes (the handling of containers rose 11% to 213,475 TEU), but could not compensate for the combined liquid bulk losses (about 9% to 2.5 million tonnes), of the bulk solids (down 6% to 722 thousand tonnes) and of the break bulk cargo (less than 9% and 318 thousand tonnes). The ro-ro cargo was worth 95 thousand tonnes (716%).
In April, Leixões handled about 1.6 million tonnes, 158 thousand tonnes less than in the same month last year.
Avoiding further losses, the handling of containerized cargo grew 1.6% beyond 522 thousand tonnes. And the ro-ro (which is also operated by TCL) increased from 4 thousand to 29 thousand tonnes.
The liquid bulk fell 19.5% to 721 thousand tonnes. The bulk solids yielded 5.3% to 198 thousand tonnes, and the break bulk cargo fell 6.1% to 96 thousand.
