CONTAINERS HOLD LEIXÕES’ FIGURES

The growth of containerized cargo was decisive to keep the Port of Leixões  above the water line in the end of  the first quarter.
Between January and March, Leixões handled 1.48 million tons of containerized cargo, a lead of 2% over the obtained figures in the corresponding period of 2012. Container handling grew 3% to 141,643 TEU.
In global terms, on the first quarter of the year, Leixões handled 4.18 million tons, just 600 tons more than those handled between January and March of the last year.
Liquid bulk went backwards 2% to 1.89 million tons, and solid bulk lost 11% to 554.86 thousand tons.
On the increase were break bulk, going up 37% to 249.14 thousand tons, and ro-ro cargo, which exceeded 7,400 tons (100% more).
