BRIEFING NOTE
2014-01-02

At the end of the year 2013, we are glad to register that TCL had an effective increase of 5.3% in the containers handled at the Terminal, notwithstanding the factual comparison between the years 2013 and 2012 reveals a decreasing of 2.6%.

Without denying the data reality, we have however to explain the difference in perspective remembering that at the end of 2012 a significant volume of containers, that we estimate in 30,000, were transferred momentarily to the port of Leixões due to the strikes at the port of Lisbon.

Thus, the truth is that the progressive settlement of the situation at the port of Lisbon returned to that port the containers that as a transitory solution had used the Leixões Container Terminal in 2012.

So, we understand that for a strict analysis of TCL’s performance in 2013, we should appreciate the data beyond the mere factuality, coming down to the substance, comparing, therefore, the TCL’s effective market in 2012 (without the 30,000 containers) to the one of 2013.

Thus, we attained the 5.3 % growth revealed above which, to be thorough, reflects the reliability that owners and other economic agents continue to dedicate to TCL and to the port of Leixões, by its performance, as a result of the timely and high investments made, healthy labor relations between the parties and permanent availability to find appropriate solutions to the increasingly competitive and demanding maritime transport.
